HISTORY OF JOHN SCOTT FENCING

WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE

In the early 1960’s my father James Scott went to work for his Uncle’s large fencing firm  James Strang Fencing who for a time employed as many as 30 men erecting fencing throughout central Scotland. Upon returning to Yorkshire he at first subcontracting, then for himself, was erecting fencing along side the motorway network which was under construction at the time. He once estimated he’d erected over 56,000 yards of post and rail during this time (around 30 miles!). Much of this is still standing today.

His reputation for quality workmanship grew and his business expanded to incorporate local authorities, farmers, racehorse trainers and timber merchants to name but a few, as well as many domestic customers.

Throughout my childhood and then upon leaving school in 1988, I went straight to work for my father, learning from the start how to erect many different types of fencing to his high standards, from single gates to whole housing estates. He was a hard taskmaster but as I grew older I realised that to achieve a finished job that was both aesthetically pleasing and durable, came with hard graft.

In 1998 as my father wound down his business I became self employed and whilst continuing with my father’s customers I gained a few new ones myself and established my own business.

I’ve kept the same high standards instilled in me to this day, whilst always trying to move with the times as styles, installation methods and tools/ machinery evolve in the fencing industry.
